An open study of the Garasone^(¢ç) ophthalmic solution in the treatment of external bacterial infections of the eye



Abstract
This study showed the combination of 0.3% gentamicin sulfate and 0.1% betamethasone phosphate solution to be effective either the bacterial infection or inflammation of the conjunctiva and the lid. Thirty patients presenting with symptomatic infective or inflammatory external diseases of the eye participated in this clinical study.
On the 3rd day of treatment, patients had a efficacy of inflammatory signs and symptoms, and also had a improvement of subjective signs and symptoms. During from the the 3rd day of treatment to the 7th day of treatment, recovery was good.
In the Gram stain of the conjunctival discharge, organism was very poorly demonstrated, but leucocytL s were demonstrated in 16 cases on the pretreatment day and in 4 cases on the 7th day of treatment. It was proved to be a good efficacy of Garasone¢ç.
Data were evaluable for efficacy for 26 of the 30 cases and showed a 87% improvement. No serious adverse reactions were associated with use of Garasome¢ç ophthalmic solution, but two patients had increased ocular hyperemia and discharge due to likely drug irritation.
